Discovery - area of "found" materials creations

Explored a former dump site where artists have taken found objects to create artful structures and compositions.   Yes, the paints might not be a "found part," but many of the materials were "trashed" metal, old wood, and more.  Some mosaic work as well.   Right by the water, so added bonus. Art tucked here and there, on a rock or a discarded cement slab. Much more than showing here. 

Salmon Spawning

Lucky to see many salmon spawning in local creek. This pair above appear to be tending to a redd. May it result in lots of kids.

Accessories Bag. Hand-me-down fabric

 

 

Used fabric on hand -- pattern fabric was from a dress my Mom made for herself many decades ago -- now it will serve it's place in her granddaughter's accessory bag. 

2026 Gingers

Family tradition continues-- jumbo ginger decorations. Fun time with the growing kids. Have saved an image from each year - see below. 

Making connections, appreciation

Fashioned  a "thank you" card, idea was to represent the studio that I had had the visit. Looked at this image the other day, and laughed as it reminded me of a sculpture from the 1940s that I recently came across -- have seen the sculpture several times before, and didn't connect it when I was making this -- makes me wonder. Was it also a series of rooms? No matter, just fun to use the mind and add some abstract. 

 

Pulling together stories

Taking some of the prior research, adding some new discoveries, weaving together stories in hope to highlight individuals who shared themselves -- art, ideas, encouragement of others -- and influenced a culture that remains.

Saw all these roots along the grass, with no trees very close -- wondering how far they reach, and if they are in fact still attached to a tree.

Guest list was perhaps short. Hopefully they found a more charming honeymoon spot. 

 

3 Friends and some fun

 Had fun outing with some friends this past weekend.. Delicious treat in the box -- filled with a savory cream, topped with a fig, brie, walnuts, and a small container of wine. Yes. 

A marathon was going on, so tricky to park, but once we did...all sorts of gallivanting. 

Dress - Bias cut - Denim, screen print

Took the kindness of the fabric given to me by the gentlemen to match it with the kindness of my Mom. Used her pattern for a dress she made many for herself decades ago. Bias cut.  I hadn't sewn it before, and didn't catch a "trick" of putting it together (there are no written instructions)..thankfully did it in a test fabric before executing in this denim. I made slight modifications to her original, but essentially the same.

   

Lights having fun

Fun lights I saw on my walk. Usually they are all white.  Not exactly sure why they got switched to color -- holiday fun? Building by renowned architect. Will let you figure it out if desired.

Fabric with possibilities

 Was walking around after visiting an exhibit involved in a research project I have been working on for some months.  Nearby town that is sometimes too touristy in parts, but I was in the more "real" part of town..all of it with pretty views.  Stopped into a workshop of some gentlemen that I had met prior -- wonderful ideas they create. They encouraged me to take a piece of fabric they had decided to give away. Interestingly, I knew what I wanted to do with it near the beginning, inspired by kindness. Still clothes for self, so not too altruistic here, but hopefully it flows with the entity. 

Positive

 

Several interesting overlays on positive thinking and actions. Preceded by an unexpected "cross pollination" on some research. So wonderful to plant those seeds. Grateful for those who do. 

Have been "making things" that aren't necessarily blog-able by my hand, but my hands are involved.

Hemming

 Gad, even though it is basic, when they are not yours, more consequences. Think multiple times, cut once. Thankfully it all worked out, even with a less than turn over amount to take away, and a thick stretchy denim.

Button Bracelet - a start

 

Not decided if will pursue. Inspired by recent show saw in SF. To tailor into a bracelet.

 Denim from childhood (Thank you Mom for cutting all your kids cast off jeans into squares).

 They went out on the pier to greet the incoming very special boat. 

Occupied, but good occupied

A lot has been going on, not so much physical creation that one can say "ta da," but lots of other stuff in terms of doing, learning, participating and insights on a special project. Fingers crossed. 
 

Petal Butterfly with word

Was in the city for a project I have been working on, and came upon this on the ground.  I thought it was a butterfly sticker at first. Looked more closely, and it was a petal from nearby landscaping.  Can't make out the the words, but smiled at the encounter overall.  

 

Mudblup thought it was him

Mudblup saw this cover, and thought it was him.  But some research shows it is not. How can Mudblup and The Thing not be related? Mudblup has been part of my family for decades. Used  in corporate life for a time..held in hand for particular thinking projects -- kind of a "worry doll," but more a thinking doll..the holding in hand thing seemed to help. One time, he went head first hard onto the desk, his head popped off.  I think it was over naming prints -- Too Many Daisies kind of triggered a push back on identifying skirt prints by name we chose. Heady stuff. :) Nicely, his head still sits on there when upright. Another metaphor likely there, but leaving it..for now. 

Dude is having fun

Pun fest: Clowning around. Knocked off his feet. Clowning achievement to have that view.  Deeper. but not that much:  Dust off your shoulders, hopefully soon. Maybe reflecting on all the work and sound you endured recently.
