Nuno Felt, solid cloth and roses

The picture placement on this entry seems to have a mind of its own, so the layout is a little cattywampus. Depicting two components of project working on. First, the roses, made individually, using wet felting process..roving and tulle. The next set of photos show wet process for making solid cloth, which I plan to use in conjunction with roses. Starts by laying out the roving, then water/soap, then agitation (lots), and voila. Note: Faster than completing book, not faster than buying it, plus plenty of bending and muscle movement. Of course, buying it is cheating, and commercial "store bought" felting won't look the same. My roving lay out is not even enough, which creates a bit too many variations in the completed cloth. Inherent beauty, or room for improvment?!

Lace Overpiece

Assignment was to take already made lace, and either make something that pertained to an heirloom or do whatever we wanted with the lace...only requirement is that it had to be existing lace, not lace we made.

Took bias lace remnants that my Mom had used on (inside) hems of some of our dresses she made for us as kids...that secret little touch of lace, and specialness of the dresses she made at the time. I hand stitched the lace strips to a ribbon, and made a simple skirt out of canvas...made it so only a section has lace, not all the way around. No lace was hurt during this experiment!

Flour and Lace

Outdoor installation group project...above photo shows one venue...took lace, sprinkled with flour, and ta da. Did a few others with individual dollies, also good, but didn't take pictures.

Benches -- Granite

Ok, feeling a bit guilty about not posting much in April, so adding my granite pieces from past projects...recently visited their owners, so, reminded me to do more soon. Use granite remnants, so psuedo green. The blue and white one was liked as standing piece, rather than bench, so David made stand for it.

Have been busy this April, but mostly with non-postable projects.

Pop Art Assignment

Granted, a little odd. Assignment was to create pattern and render in fabric a work of Pop-Art. I may need to explain what this is, so I am. An 'i," from iPod, iPad, iGeneration , etc. Figured out a nifty thing about pi as I worked the math for specific size ".," stitched in white vinyl, with cover made of clear stitchable (but barely) plastic. The "i" itself wasn't the whole story for me, so, I humanized the form by creating removable eyes and clothing -- to depict the reality that these 'i" phenomenas aren't cold technology, but methods that allow individuals to personalize aspects of their life and create in ways that were not too accessible not so many years ago.
