Cards...Golden Gate, Snowflakes & all

Greetings from one side of this bridge!  Caught an image of the bridge that looked like a tree to me...and thus paper cutting and assorted actions created 2015 "hello."   And for variety, snowflakes on pink.

Paper Picture

A few influences lately. Black outlines and tissue paper laid down as paint. Construction paper doesn't do what tissue paper may, but it is a start. Black outline exhibit also revealed smiles in bronze.

Paper Play

Above: Paper, paint, and words.

Below: Playing with paper I got in a little shop in Prague...many moons ago. Can control the flow of paper better than paint!  Making something when you are somewhere other than "home" is a nice souvenir.

Cut Out Saying Cards

Room for improvement, but borrowing idea to translate for card.  Would work better with bright pop of color underneath, and perhaps a free hand technique (as i saw in original) for the script. The saying on the first card came from conversation with "help desk" for new laptop.  I made a rather funny, though unintentional, choice of words in reading my serial number to the help desk person.  After fits of laughter, he related that he has heard plenty goofy references...."3 as in 3," and the one I really cracked up about "G as in Jesus."

Flax Paper

Made "paper" out of flax. First piece was sheer (in front of statue), as I had limited supply of long staple flax (not dyed). The white piece was made from dyed flax with a shorter fiber, and made it thicker (3 layers)...also made "lace" pattern of flowers on it by creating space with pin (pushing around fibers in wet stage). The last picture here shows dyed flax fiber, after it has left the living plant, but before it is woven into linen or used to create paper.

Technical: Lay out fiber on screen, cover with screen, paint diluted (1:4) white glue/water mixture on top, let dry while lifting screen to prevent sticking, but keeping integrity of "paper" you are creating.
