Banana Fiber Light Shade

Used banana fiber web with stitching to cover light. Hmmm. Could be better. Fiber has a bit of sheen to it, so while it is "natural" has some natural "bling" to it that plays with the light also.

The next day:  Not satisfied that the potential of the fiber had been met with the light cover, played more with its ethereal freedom.  More satisfied, yet not quite at the zenith yet.

Stop Go Man Signal

Metal, with plexi inserts. Took the outer part of my plasma cut man and saw a lighted sign...internally and externally. One could think of this as Mankind -- kind of like what the debt counter in NY does....if we keep pushing environmental or political issues beyond human inhabitation light moves to red -- STOP.  If we move to more peaceful solutions for the earth and us light moves to green -- GO.   Of course, one could use it for decision making too....should one proceed or not?! One switches the light to illuminate themselves or others. Or perhaps a  campaign should be mounted to replace all currently in place lighted signals to human ones to prioritize/replace walkers over drivers? That would help with some exhaust issues, but perhaps  create another exhaust situation ...long walk fatigue.

My lightening situation here needs to  be pefected (as do my photog skills for dark things with light), but my impatience has me putting it here prior to full completion. I got to use the hand grider to make the metal all shiney and remove the burrs...sparks flying, cool new tool to me.

Felt Lampshade

Figured out way to make my nuno felt piece a working light filter, which was the intention from the beginning. For shade: the framework is a tomato growing metal thing --  snipped the bottom off so that I had one section of the size I desired. Felted the brown section as a solid piece of fabric.  The white flowers are leftover from another felt project...stitched the orange lines to lend a "kind of flower/something"element.

I am not wild about how this looks overall (though it looks better in person than in photo, as in photo you don't get to see the depth of the cloth), but glad I figured out way to make acceptable shade framework...may be of use in future.

Lampshade

Took picture my four year old niece made of unicyclist, traced on silk treated with rabbit skin glue (for stiffness). Stitched on sewing machine, not using any fancy computer program, just my hand and the sewing machine, back and forth and on and on. A few hand french knots for effect, and then put on lamp base that I had spray painted to coordinate. Spray painting on metal 3-d object is an area that I have room to improve. Put the unicyclist on 3 times, so it was a fair amount of effort, but I like it. Need to clean up some of the stitches that show through, particulary evident when lit.
