Stuffed Animal "Bunny" Portrait

Took inspiration from my photograph of stuffed toy bunny. Believe I have conveyed the story prior: Received him from the "Easter Bunny" on a Sunday morning of my childhood.  That same day, the family went for a ride, and upon exiting the car, my bunny fell into a muddy puddle. Bunny was wrapped in newspaper for the car ride home, and then put in the washing machine and dryer. Bunny came out very matted, and not at all like he was just that Easter morning. One of the "life lessons" in a way....shiny and bright one second, muffed up the next.  I think I use the memory for humor more for the "dire" part of the lesson.  Again, I thank Mom for not getting rid of all this stuff from childhood...thank goodness for lots of closets and good organizational skills (and for overlooking some things that really "ought to go!").

16x20 canvas
Freezer paper outline of bunny applied to framed canvas.."iron-on" properties of freezer paper worked fine. Applied gold spray paint (still part of my "paint on many surfaces" experiment) to give outline.  I was going to paint on face details, but decided the warmth of fabric would be better, plus I "fabric" slightly better than I paint.  Hand felted nose.  Yes, I meant to have the white show to the right of him....attempt to offset/add dimension to him a bit.

Crazy 8 Birthday Cake

Some one is turning 8 today!  Double cake-pop balls with a skewer through to make 3D 8s.
Lightly frosted, rolled in sprinkles...skewered through fairly deep into 12" double layer cake.
I had planned to make 8 8's, but the weight of them seemed to be asking for trouble to poke them through too far off from center of the cake.

Paper Play

Above: Paper, paint, and words.

Below: Playing with paper I got in a little shop in Prague...many moons ago. Can control the flow of paper better than paint!  Making something when you are somewhere other than "home" is a nice souvenir.

Dance to the Music

Taking a song, and making a dance to music....following the waves.  I may turn to stitching it, but the idea of a dancer or line of dancers following the sound waves in physical shape of the music....suppose it has been done before, naturally the rhythm of dance moves with music, but the up down and pulse...seems different.

Scarf for Doll

I don't think I can bear to put the doll on here as I am sinking low enough by putting this on here. A 10 minute project, from the rag bag (yes, apple didn't fall too far from the tree), with exception of the pink scrap taken from some leftovers.  I did learn something about fabric manipulation, so I am kind of justifying the post that way...kind of, but not totally.

Leather Clutch Made from Vintage Portfolio

Took a vintage leather portfolio and trimmed off most of the damaged edges, as well as pulled out the insert and removed inner section and edge zipper. Strange to me that cardboard was in between the leather and original lining...pulled that out and discarded. .  Left with leather rectangle with a zipper in it ("made in Germany" says the pull).

Pictures below outline the steps after that...ironed on freezer paper (that stuff is soooo useful) to block off the parts I wanted to remain black.  Then put a stripe of thin gaffers tape down the center of that and over the zipper. Sprayed two coats of metallic gold spray paint (part of my "let's see what we can do with this can" project series).

Made a lining, and stitched with trusty Bernina onto top edge, sewing sides of lining together, then tucking inside as I sewed edges of leather together to form rectangle. Fold over top edge, one has herself a golden active stripe clutch!

Puzzle Pieces -- Found Objects on wood

Gold spray paint gets a spin on a simple block of wood. Found puzzle piece depicts Iowa pig...or "hog" if one is perhaps to be correct for "hog belly" stat parlez. Iowa hog population was 20 million in 2012, with Iowa people population at 3 million. I guess the pig is entitled to his portrait here on the state.

Below is car puzzle piece that the piano movers found inside one of Mom's pianos...I guess my brother tossed it in there 35 years ago or so. This type of "puzzle" has little red handles on it..the car pieces fit into slots on a wooden board.
